Biography

Named one of the Society of Composers and Publishers’ “Film Composers to Watch,” Gavin Brivik has won numerous awards, including the World Soundtrack Award for “Best Composition by a Young International Composer,” the ASCAP Jimmy Van Heusen Film Composer Award, the Alan Menken Composer Award, and the distinguished Elmer Bernstein Film Scoring Award.

Brivik recently scored How to Blow Up a Pipeline, which premiered at TIFF and was distributed by Neon in 2023. He also scored Wild Indian, starring Michael Greyeyes, Jesse Eisenberg and Kate Bosworth, which premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, and the score for the film was nominated for a World Soundtrack Award. Other recent projects include A&E’s Documentary Series The Secrets of Playboy, and the Paramount/Blumhouse film The Visitor, directed by Justin Lange.

Brivik’s credits include the 90th Academy Award-nominated short, My Nephew Emmett; Netflix’s Emmy-nominated original series Living Undocumented, produced by Selena Gomez; Netflix/Blumhouse Productions’ Cam, which premiered at Fantasia Film Festival in 2018, starring Madeline Brewer; as well as numerous narrative and documentary short films.

Brivik studied contemporary classical and electronic music composition at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he combined his roots as an indie rock and folk guitarist with orchestral and electronic instruments. Brivik went on to receive his Masters in Music Composition for Film and Multimedia at New York University.

Gavin released his debut solo album, “Realms and Forms,” with bitbird Records and MusicBed.
