Biography

Gazelle Twin AKA Elizabeth Bernholz is a British composer, producer and performance artist known for her boldly experimental, electro-acoustic music, and dramatic live performances. She brings the same emotional intensity and signature production style that defines her critically-acclaimed solo albums to her commissions for major broadcasters, film studios and game developers.

The first original feature score she created for Nocturne (Amazon/Blumhouse) in 2020marked her arrival as a distinctive new voice in contemporary film composition. She has since created original scores in the genres of psychological horror, thriller, documentary and drama including; Twisted Yoga (Apple TV / Lightbox, 2026), The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford (BBC Film/BFI, 2026), Summerwater (Channel 4, 2025), Mudtown (U&Alibi), Black Cab (Sony Pictures, 2024), Then You Run (Sky Max / KUDOS, 2023), and The Power (BFI/Air Street Films, 2021) written in collaboration with Max de Wardener.

Bernholz’s compositional language and production style pushes intentionally beyond conventional scoring practices and embraces diverse roots in sacred choral tradition and folk, avant-garde vocal and classical, to industrial noise and electronica. Her output ranges anywhere from intimate minimalism to expansive cinematic scale. As a multi-instrumentalist and singer, she is widely recognised for her striking use of voice, incorporating hallmark electronic vocal effects with extended singing techniques to visceral and haunting effect.

She has worked on large-scale commissions with leading orchestras in the UK, including The London Contemporary Orchestra, and the BBC Concert Orchestra, together with composer and arranger Max de Wardener. These collaborations have expanded her approach to scoring for screen, evidenced in her recent work on Channel 4’s series, Summerwater, and BBC feature, The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford, which feature richly-layered and characterful symphonic sound worlds, fusing sound design, live acoustic instrumentation and electronics into a narrative, psychological force of its own.

In addition to her scores, commissioned and original songs by Gazelle Twin have featured in major TV, film and game productions which include bespoke commissions for; Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt Red, 2020), Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (Netflix, 2022), The Walking Dead (AMC), Uncanny: Post Mortem (BBC 2 / Radio 4), and licensed songs in The New Pope (HBO), How To Get Away With Murder (ABC), The Virtues (Channel 4), and a promotional short for Prometheus (20th Century Fox), directed by Ridley Scott in 2012.
