Michael Gatt
Michael Gatt is a composer for all media. His origins are in live performance. Touring with various bands, he has shared the stage with the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, Squeeze, Social Distortion and even Spinal Tap, yes as in, “This one goes to eleven!” Taking a sabbatical from performing, Michael spent years traveling the world with nothing but his guitar and a backpack. He visited over 50 countries, learned Spanish and Portuguese, and was able to broaden his musical horizons jamming with locals all round the world. These travels also involved working with great whites and other wildlife on location with Animal Planet and Discovery Channel.
Upon his return, Michael began scoring commercials and jingles for the likes of Nike and Google. Eventually this lead to scoring long form documentaries for Shark Week. Michael was instantly hooked on the story telling nature of long form composing. A string of shows for Discovery Channel followed, including four of the highest rated shark week shows of all time. When Discovery released the 25th anniversary album commemorating a quarter century of Shark Week music, Michael’s music was chosen to kick off the album.
Soon after, Michael was entrusted with a short film for the Despicable Me Minions franchise. This led to numerous collaborations with Illumination and Universal, including six more short films featuring characters from Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, and SING. From his success scoring these short films, Michael went on to score the music for the Minions Mayhem theme park ride for Universal Studios Japan.
Michael’s scripted credits include the TV series Blood Drive, for the Syfy channel. A true anthology, each episode leaned into adifferent grindhouse genre and the score followed suit covering everything fromSpaghetti Western, to 80’s horror, to classic Kung Fu. As well as thetheatrical film Braid, a psychologicalthriller starring Madeline Brewer (Handmaid’s Tale/Orange is the NewBlack). Michael has just completed Justice League Warwoldfor Warner BrothersAnimation, his 4thfilm for WBA including the critically acclaimed Batman: The LongHalloween Part 1 and 2 films.
