Missy Cohen

Missy Cohen is a seasoned music editor with a wealth of experience spanning over three decades in the film and television industry. Holding a BA in Film Studies from Hofstra University, Missy has made a significant impact in her field, earning six MPSE Golden Reel Award nominations and winning twice. Her dedication and expertise led to her acceptance into the Television Academy in 2011 and the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2019.

Throughout her illustrious career, Missy has collaborated with an array of distinguished directors, including Jonathan Demme, The Coen Brothers, Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, The Safdie Brothers, John Leguizamo, Rose Troche, Halina Reijn, Robert Duvall, Milos Forman, David Mamet, and Mel Brooks. Her ability to seamlessly integrate music into visual storytelling has also seen her working alongside accomplished composers such as Marvin Hamlisch, Tamar-Kali, Wendy & Lisa, Animal Collective, Volker Bertelmann, Cristobal Tapiade Veer, Nathan Larson, Pat Irwin, Jose Cancela, and Carter Burwell.

Missy’s extensive knowledge of film scores and composers, along with her proficiency in Pro Tools, has made her a sought-after music editor for feature films, television series, and documentaries. Her passion for music extends beyond her professional life; she enjoys playing guitar and fiddle in a neighbourhood bluegrass jam. When she's not immersed in her work, Missy loves solving The New York Times crossword puzzle, spending time in the park with her dog, and travelling with her partner, Liz.

In addition to her technical expertise, Missy is passionate about mentoring up-and-coming music editors and composers. She finds great joy in sharing her knowledge and experiences, helping to shape the next generation of talent in the industry. Furthermore, she enjoys conducting Q&As with filmmakers at public screenings, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the collaborative process behind the scenes.
