Ollie Howell
Ollie Howell is a film composer, drummer and producer recognised for his original sound-worlds and creative versatility. As a composer and score producer for film and television, Ollie has written music for many multi-award-winning films and international TV series, with his work being screened at film festivals, cinemas and television networks around the world. He also frequently collaborates with many other eminent film composers on BAFTA-nominated and Golden Globe-winning projects.
Recent composing highlights include co-scoring the RTS award-winning documentary Flight 149, which premiered internationally at SXSW, scoring the feature documentary Cassius X: Becoming Ali and the feature thriller Kiss of the Con Queen. As a score producer, Ollie has contributed to major studio features, including the critically acclaimed Crime 101, directed by Bart Layton, and the forthcoming thriller Runner, directed by Kevin Macdonald and starring Gal Gadot and Damian Lewis.
Ollie is also a frequent collaborator within larger music teams on international productions, including Napoleon (dir. Ridley Scott); the ITV spy thriller series The Ipcress File (ITV); The Green Planet, presented by David Attenborough; the Golden Globe-winning feature The Mauritanian; and the feature documentary Body Parts, which was nominated for Outstanding Music Composition at the 44th News & Documentary Emmy Awards.
As a performing artist, both under his own name and as a member of the ambient-electronic group Collisions, Ollie’s live shows and studio recordings impress audiences with a punchy blend of creativity, stunning improvisation and critically acclaimed compositions. Legendary producer and film composer Quincy Jones calls him ‘an unbelievable drummer'. So creative I couldn’t believe it… he really is a 360-degree beautiful young cat.’ Ollie is the only-ever jazz recipient of a Sky Academy Arts Scholarship, and his first album, Sutures and Stitches, received critical acclaim, with the Guardian hailing it as ‘a fine debut’ and Mojo stating that his music ‘has delicious dynamic flow and an almost elegiac beauty’.
