Biography

The youngest composer to be listed in ABC Classic’s 100 Greatest Classical Works of All Time, Piers Burbrook de Vere is a four-time APRA/AACTA Award-winning musician working across film, television and the concert hall.

His original score for the 2022 ARIA Award-winning soundtrack to River was created in collaboration with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and William Barton, and received its UK live premiere at London’s Barbican Centre, led by Richard Tognetti, ahead of an acclaimed concert season and performance at the Sydney Opera House. The work also received two APRA Screen Music Awards for Best Original Song Written for the Screen and Best Soundtrack Album, and the AACTA Award for Best Original Score in a Documentary.

Piers is equally at home in satire, having co-written several songs with Josh Gad for the 2019 Sundance zom-com Little Monsters, which took home the 2019 APRA Screen Music Award for Best Soundtrack Album. His score for two seasons of Peacock’s Wolf Like Me reimagined melodies from songs by Nirvana, INXS and Queens of the Stone Age as recurring themes within the series’ score, earning APRA Screen Music Award nominations for Best Soundtrack Album (2022) and Best Music for a Television Comedy (2024).

Piers is based in the Upper Blue Mountains, Australia, and is currently scoring The Great White for See-Saw Films.
